The quote connotes that we must be aware and appreciate what we have.
People nowadays are very busy working towards a certain goal that they become blind to what is happening in their surroundings. Being goal oriented is good as long as we are also self-aware. We strive so hard to reach our goals to the exclusion of everything else and when we reached our goals, it is only then that we discover that we have lost some things that have been vital in our journey of achieving said goals.
For example,
I want to become a millionaire by the age of 30. This is what I want.
To achieve what I want, I must do everything I can to earn money and make those earnings earn for me. So, I do overtime work, I became frugal by minimizing my social outings, and become more competitive in the workplace to ensure fast promotions.
When I finally become a millionaire by the age of 30. I realized that I have alienated my family and friends. I have sacrificed my time for them to achieve my goal. I may be rich but not happy. I have forgotten the people who are important to me in my drive to get what I want.
