Well first, you have to convert 17/8 to a mixed number. You have to do that because it is a improper fraction.17/8 as a mixed is 2 1/8.Then you subtract 5 3/4 from 2 1/8.

After all the work you should get 3 5/8

We know that one container contains
1 (7)/(8) and the second container contains
5 (3)/(4). To find how many more quarts of water the second container holds than the first one, we do:

5 (3)/(4) -1 (7)/(8)= ←Make them have common denominator

5 (6)/(8)-1 (7)/(8=) ←Make them into improper fraction

(46)/(8)- (15)/(8)= ←Subtract them

(31)/(8)= ←Simplify

3 \sqrt[7]{8} ←That's your answer
