The correct answer would be A. B isn't correct because, even though the sentences have been combined, one sentence wasn't changed into a phrase, it remained a sentence. (You make a phrase by deleting the verb from a sentence). The same goes for C. D could be correct, but a part of the sentence was omitted (12 448 foot) so it isn't the same as the original sentence. Whereas A is.
