Some political theorists might argue that individual rights must, at times, be sacrificed to promote the common good.

The common good is a notion wherein systems within the society, where an individual belongs to, can cater to the needs of all in an equal manner. What good is exerting individual rights if it jeopardizes the rights of the majority? In emergency political situations, individual rights can be sacrificed when said sacrifice can benefit majority, if not all, of the people.

The common good is for the good of all where everyone can exert their rights without trampling on the rights of others throughout the process.
