Foliated metamorphic rock has a layered or banded appearance produced by exposure to heat and directed pressure.
Foliation is commonly referred to the repetitive layering in metamorphic rocks.
The following are some of the examples of a foliated metamorphic rock:
Slate- a slate is just like shale. It has a dark color and will break into flat layers.
Schist- contains mica and is often has a large crystals of it.
Gneiss – looks like a fudge swirl ice cream.
