The successor state to the Ottoman Empire is Turkey: people in the Ottoman Empire spoke Turkish and were culturally similar to today's Turkish people.
Ottoman Empire also invaded and annexed other territories: the Balkan Peninsula and the lands on the African coast of the Medditeranean Sea and Red Sea.
