Hi, the correct answer is B, this is a "compound sentence". A cannot be correct because neither "contain" or "are" aren't compound verbs. And a compound sentence contains at least two independent clauses, which is the case in this example: 1. Macadamia nuts contain many nutrients + but + 2. (macadamia nuts) are poisonous to dogs.
