The war brought other economic consequences. Prices increased and, even though wages also did, purchasing power in the contending countries decreased considerably, while the black market extended. The destruction of many productive infrastructures and the need for more products and raw materials meant that purchases abroad were triggered in such a way that they exceeded, in many cases, the possibilities of payment.
