You have a 32-foot fence around a square garden. You paint 1/3 of one side of the fence. What fraction of the fence did you paint?

For this problem situation you are finding the amount of fence you painted in feet fraction wise.
Firstly, (assuming the 32 feet is the length) we would divide 32 by 4 to find the length of each side of the square fence.
1) 32÷4= 8
So we see that a side of the fence is 8 feet in length. Now, since the problem states that you paint 1/3 of one side of the four sided fence we you divide 8 by 3.
2) 8/3= 2.666666667
or 2.7 rounded
2.7 is the length of the fence you painted. In fraction form this would be 2 and 7/10 which would be your final answer.
3) 2 7/10
