The Tea Act of 1773 allowed Britain's East India Company to monopolized tea and its sales on the colonies of America. This is done so that Britain could pay their debts faster. However, even before the act was mandated the colonists weren't keen on the obligation of tea drinking and the act strengthened their abhorrence for it. This eventually led to the Boston Tea Party where colonists, on board East India Company ships, threw shipments of tea into the sea.
