Considering a positive connotation, an overprotective person is someone who is always caring and guarding other people. In addition, he/she is mindful, alert, concerned and attentive towards other people's problems, situations or behaviours. However, a negative connotation for the word "overprotective" would be restrictive, vigilant, possessive and fussy among others.
