The first wave of immigration into Canada were poor French farmers, as well as fur trappers and British army personnel. However, it is important to note that British colonization and French colonization had people from all walks of life coming over. The second wave were Irish immigrants escaping the Potato Famine in their home country and the third wave consisted of Ukrainians escaping the First and Second World War.
