The correct answer is option A, that is, pyruvate.

Carbon dioxide is generated both in aerobic as well as in anaerobic respiration, but only in yeast and plants not in animals. Lactate or lactic acid is only generated during anaerobic respiration in animals. Ethanol is only produced in anaerobic respiration. Pyruvate is an intermediate both in anaerobic and aerobic respiration.
