Two reasons why the UK imports 40% of it's food.

1 Although it may not be good for the environment it is cheaper to import food from other countries 2 even though we can grow some fruits in the uk we cannot drove them all times of the year so we import them from other countries so we can have them all year round.

Answer:

Because it's cheaper to import some foods than to grow them locally (even if they grow well here), and the population is too large to be supported entirely by domestic production.
