Imagine you were reading a journal written by a woman during the time of the American Civil War. If you wanted to use this as historical evidence, you should first find out the writer's point of view. How would you do this?

If you were reading a journal to determine the the point of view, what you should do is check out first the way in which they speak, whether they convey ideas from a first or a second point of view, and then you should see what the reason for writing is. Often these kind of journals would be a wife writing to her husband who's at war or anything similar.
