The\ complement\ of\ an\ angle\ \alpha \ is\ the\ angle\ 90^0- \alpha .\\\\ \alpha =178^0\ \ \ \Rightarrow\ \ \ 90^0- \alpha =90^0-178^0=-88^0\\\\\alpha =110^0\ \ \ \Rightarrow\ \ \ 90^0- \alpha =90^0-110^0=-20^0

Complement - x \\ \\ 178 + x = 90 \\ \\ x = 90-178 = -88. \\\\\\Complement-y \\ \\ 100 + y = 90 \\ \\ y = 90-100 = -10

Thus, the complement of 178 is -88 degrees and complement of 100 is -10.
