Quotient is the answer in a division. Let X = number.

Therefore, the equation would be X divided by 6 or X/6 to get the quotient.

Difference is the answer in a subtraction. Therefore, we must subract 8 from the quotient to have a difference of 9.

The equation must be:

X/6 - 8 = 9

To get X, -8 must be transferred to the other side and its sign will change into a positive sign.

X/6 = 9 + 8
X/6 = 17

To get X; 6 must be multiplied to 17
X = 17 * 6

Therefore, X = 102

To Check. Substitue X with the number 102 in the equation.

X/6 - 8 = 9
102/6 - 8 = 9
17 - 8 = 9
9 = 9 EQUAL.

The statement above is correct.
