a) To make the denominator same we can multiply and divide the first fraction by 2,

i.e.
`(1)/(4)* (2)/(2)=(2)/(8)`

Now, Add the Giant fractions by substituting

`(1)/(4)+(5)/(8)`

`=(2)/(8)+(5)/(8)`

`=(2+5)/(8)`

`=(7)/(8)`

So,
`(1)/(4)+(5)/(8)=(7)/(8)`
