The square root of a number is a number that when multiplied by itself equals the original number. Example: The square root of 9 = 3. Thus: 3 x 3 = 9.
Formula
A is the square root of B if: A x A = B
so
The square root of 3 is sqrt{3} = 1.7320508
Thus: 1.7320508 x 1.7320508 = 3
