Spanish Monarchs began to oppose the spread of Protestantism because they were strong devote toward the Catholic Church. They wanted to stop people from converting into Protestants. Spain Monarchs remain faithful to the Catholic Church because it gains power and rights from the Papacy to rule in Spain. Anti-Protestantism started by the Catholic against the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century. Protestants condemned as heretics and persecuted in Spain and other territories like Italy and the Netherlands.
