Here are five different reasons behind England sending settlers to the New World.

1) England was over populated- During the 1600's, England had an enormous population with scarce resources. In order to relieve this tension, many individuals were sent from England to the New World.

2) Increase the amount of resources- The New World offered new foods (like potatoes) that were highly valued in European society.

3) Increase the amount of land possessed by England- Land is an important commodity, as this allows the English government to have influence over more people and access to new materials.

4) Religion- Many citizens of England faced religious persecution. This made the New World an appealing place for these people, as they could practice the religion they desired.

5) Compete against the Spanish- During the 16th century, Spain dominated the North American continent. England wanted to start developing more colonies in the New World in order to compete and become stronger than Spain.
