Let S represent William, and M represent Umaima.
S = 5M
S = M + 8
Since they are both values of S, they equal each other.
5M = M + 8
Subtract M from each side
4M = 8
Divide each side by 4
M = 4\2
Umaima is 2; therefore William is 10.
