I believe the answer is: D. Miranda v. Arizona.

The police department could use everything that the defendant say during the process of capturing until the court trial to prove the defendant's guilt. Because of this, Miranda rights was created in order to give the defendants the right to remain silent and appoint an attorney to represent them in the court.

The stipulation requiring that accused persons be told they have "the right to remain silent" stems from "D. Miranda v. Arizona" which is why these rights are now referred to commonly as "Miranda Rights".
