What was one important geographic reason the United States was able to maintain a foreign policy

The primary geographic reason the United States was able to maintain an isolationist foreign policy is because it was (and still is) protected by the two greatest bodies of water on Earth (the Atlantic and the Pacific)--making invasions far more difficult.
