Shaniqua's bedroom is 12.6 feet long and 8 feet wide. She wants to put a 1 foot high wallpaper border around the room and cover the floor with carpet. How many feet of wallpaper does she need, and how many square feet of carpet?

Explanation:

The wallpaper is going to be around all the four walls of the bedroom and to know how many feet of wallpaper we know that the bedroom is:

12.6 feet long and 8 feet wide.

So two walls are 12.6 feet and two are 8 feet, so we have to add the total of feet the perimeter of the bedroom is:

12.6+12.6+8+8 = 41.2 feet of wallpaper.

With the carpet, we need to know the area of the room because it will be on the floor. The formula for the area of a rectangle is:

A=L*W

where:

A is area

L is length

W is wide

Now we will substitute the data we have in the formula:

A = 12.6 * 8

A = 100.8 square feet of carpet.
