What would have been the likely consequences for the United States if other western powers had divided China into colonies instead of accepting the open door policy

This is of course a very subjective question, because it is impossible to know for sure, but if this were the case the United States would have had to have imported goods from other countries at probably higher prices, thus hurting GDP.
