1. sqrt(90,000) = sqrt(9 x 10,000) = 300.
2. sqrt(216) = sqrt(6 x 6 x 6) = 6^(3 / 2) ~ 14.7.

The side length of 90,000 square miles is 300 mi. The side length of 216 square miles is 14.6969385 mi. You just square root it.
