-22 degrees Celsius should be the answer
6.8 times 5 is 34
since 34 is bigger than 12, you take 12 from 34 and add a negative sign, and that would be -22.
You can use a calculator if u want and is allowed too. :)

Answer:

-22 degrees Celsius.

Explanation:

Let x represent number of kilometers.

We have been given that the temperature decreases by 6.8 degrees Celsius for every increase of 1 kilometer above the ground. So temperature decreased in x hours would be
-6.8x.

The ground temperature at Brigham Airport is 12 degrees Celsius. The temperature at an altitude of x kilometers would be
12-6.8x.

To find temperature outside a plane flying at an altitude of 5 kilometers, we will substitute
x=5 in our expression as:

12-6.8(5)

12-34

-22

Therefore, the temperature outside a plane flying at an altitude of 5 kilometers would be
-22 degrees Celsius.
