The correct answer is: "the legislative branch".

The principle of division of powers states that the power of a state has to be divided in three branches:

  • Legislative branch: in charge of enacting laws and regulations. In the US this function is performed by the Congress.
  • Executive branch: in charge of the law enforcement mechanisms. This power is exercised by the Goverment.
  • Judiciary branch: is in charge of interpreting the laws, in order to solve related controversies. This fucntion is performed by the court system.
