lateral root grows horizonatlly and provides prime support in anchoring the tree. The roots that extend out of a main root, is known as tap root system.Tap root is vertical and grows downwards, and is present in dicots like mango, radish, carrot etc.

Lateral roots that extend out are called called tap roots. The first root which develops from a radicle and becomes dominant is called a taproot. Roots that develop from other roots are generally termed as lateral roots; >Roots that arise from other plant organs rather than the root, are called adventitious roots.
