2(x - 1) = 10

First, divide both sides by 2. / Your problem should look like:
x - 1 = (10)/(2)
Second, simplify
(10)/(2) to 5. / Your problem should look like:
x - 1 = 5
Third, add 1 to both sides. / Your problem should look like:
x = 5 + 1
Fourth, add 5 + 1 to get 6. / Your problem should look like:
x = 6

Answer: x = 6
