4x - 2 = 2x - 10

First, subtract 2x from both sides. / Your problem should look like:
4x - 2 - 2x = -10
Second, subtract 4x - 2 - 2x to 2x - 2. / Your problem should look like:
2x - 2 = -10
Third, add 2 to both sides. / Your problem should look like:
2x = -10 + 2
Fourth, simplify -10 + 2 to get -8. / Your problem should look like:
2x = -8
Fifth, divide both sides by 2. / Your problem should look like:
x = -(8)/(2)
Sixth, simplify
(8)/(2) to 4. / Your problem should look like:
x = -4

Answer: x = -4
