Some plants have parts that are pigmented and parts that are not. Take the Coleus leaf for example. Some species have green parts in the

middle and white parts on the outer portions of the leave or vice versa. If you removed the pigment from the leaf and tested it for the
presence of starch, what would you expect to see? (Remember when iodine is added, anything that contains starch turns black)

If you removed the pigment and tested with iodine solution for the presence of starch then there would be no color change to the iodine solution
