Explain how you know that the sum of 12.6, 3.1 and 5.4 is greater than 20.

You know that the sum of 12.6, 3.1, and 5.4 is greater than 20.  This is because the sum of 12+3+5=20.  All of the numbers have added decimals on them, so that at least 1 to the sum of the numbers.  The sum without the decimals is at 20, so you know that it must be greater than 20.
