Sanskrit originated back in the 2nd millennium as Vedic Sanskit, and before this point can be followed back to its linguistic roots with the Proto-indo-European and Proto-Indo-Iranian languages. Today, Sanskrit is still used as a liturgical and philosophical lanuage within Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Jainism.
