When Carla looked out at the school parking lot, she noticed that for every 2 minivans , there were 5 other types of vehicles. If there are 161 vehicles in the parking lot, how many of them are not minivans?

Let

x--------> number of minivans at the school parking

y-------> number of other types of vehicles at the school parking

we know that

(x)/(y) =(2)/(5) \\\\ 5x=2y

y= 2.5x -----> equation
1

x+y=161 ------> equation
2

Substitute equation
1 in equation
2

x+(2.5x)=161\\\\ 3.5x=161\\\\ x=(161)/(3.5)\\\\x= 46

y=2.5*46\\ y=115

therefore

The number of minivans at the school parking is equal to
46

The number of other types of vehicles at the school parking is equal to
115

the answer is

The number of vehicles that are not minivans is
115
