Answer: The number is 1.2

Explanation:

In this situation we will represent the number by x .

3 times that number will give us the expression 3x and the sum of 3x and 14 will be 3x + 14

It says that has to equal the difference between twenty and two times the number which can be represented by the expression, 20 - 2x

3x + 14 = 20 - 2x Now solve for x to find the number

-14 -14

3x = 6 - 2x

+2x +2x

5x = 6

x = 1.2
