8(3m + 5) = 2m - 4

First, expand. / Your problem should look like: 24m + 40 = 2m - 4
Second, subtract 2m from both sides. / Your problem should look like: 24m + 40 - 2m = -4
Third, simplify 24m + 40 - 2m to 22m + 40. / Your problem should look like: 22m + 40 = -4
Fourth, subtract 40 from both sides. / Your problem should look like: 22m = -4 - 40
Fifth, simplify -4 - 40 to -44. / Your problem should look like: 22m = -44
Sixth, divide both sides by 22. / Your problem should look like: m =
-(44)/(22)
Seventh, simplify
(44)/(22) to 2. / Your problem should look like: m = -2

Answer: m = -2
