8y - 3 = 6y + 17

First, add 3 to both sides. / Your problem should look like: 8y = 6y + 17 + 3
Second, simplify 6y + 17 + 3 to 6y + 20. / Your problem should look like: 8y = 6y + 20
Third, subtract 6y from both sides. / Your problem should look like: 8y - 6y = 20
Fourth, simplify 8y - 6y to 2y. / Your problem should look like: 2y = 20
Fifth, divide both sides by 2. / Your problem should look like: y =
(20)/(2)
Sixth, simplify
(20)/(2) to 10. / Your problem should look like: y = 10

Answer: y = 10
