One of the reasons given for the colonization of Georgia was to serve as a "buffer" colony. This meant that Georgia was

a. an outpost from which English pirates could attack Spanish galleons.

Georgia was the last of the thirteen colonies to be founded and it began as a line of fortress towns, creating a buffer between English settlers in the Carolinas and the Spanish in Florida. Georgia was fill with promises as it was created as a land for English debtors to start fresh in the New World. Georgia was recognized as a place to achieve financial success when the Colonists realized the potential it had.
