I believe the answer is: they implemented a system of direct democracy, giving people the opportunity to vote directly on the legal issues that affected them.

.

The main difference between ancient Greek's direct democracy and Our current democracy lies within the things that we vote for.

In direct democracy, citizens have the right to vote for the legislation that wanted to be implemented, in our current democracy citizens only have the right to vote for government representatives who create the legislation.
