A reasoning tactic would be that if you wanted your friends to try alcohol and they didn't want to, you can tell him that it's a normal thing and that people have been drinking it for millennia and that there is nothing wrong with drinking as long as it doesn't grow into alcoholism. You can even explain how it will affect the body and make it sound all reasonable.
