A = lw
A = 3(x + 2)(x + 2)
A = 3(x(x + 2) + 2(x + 2)
A = 3(x(x) + x(2) + 2(x) + 2(2))
A = 3(x² + 2x + 2x + 4)
A = 3(x² + 4x + 4)
A = 3(x²) + 3(4x) + 3(4)
A = 3x² + 12x + 12

The answer is A.
