The Sapa Inca was the title given to the ruler of the Kingdom of Cuzco, which would later evolve into the Incan Empire.

The Sapa Inca was the sole ruler of the whole empire. He exercised totalitarian rule, controlling all aspects of government. His power was believed to be granted by the Sun God "Wiracocha". He took al decisions regarding public policy, foreign policy, and military affairs. The Sapa Inca would serve as ruler of the empire until his death.
