How does visualization promote relaxation and stress reduction?

Depends on what you're looking at. Colors seem to have a role in how we feel, out heart rate. But being able to look at calming scenery, of bright greens and blues is calming because it's the colors of life, and our minds sees the colors and we instantly become more calm. Green is calming because it's color that is found quite frequently in nature, so essentially it's good.
