why did disputes over taxation figure so prominently in deteriorating relations between Britian and the colonies? between britain and the colonies ? please refer to specific disputed British attempts to raise revenue and the colonial response

It was the core of their dispute with Britain

The main reason why this was such an issues was because The British had just  ended the French and Indian War, which was very expensive. The colonists were mad mostly because they were being taxed without representation in Parliament.
