You just subtract the amount he grew from his actual height. 56 7/8 minus 4 1/4 would be 52 5/8 inches.

Answer:

52(5)/(8) inches

Explanation:

We are given that brad grew
4(1)/(4) inches this year and now height of brad is
56(7)/(8) inches

We have to write an equation for finding of height of Brad and find the height of brad at the start of this year.

Let x be the height of Brad at the start of this year

According to question

x+4(1)/(4)=56(7)/(8)

x+(17)/(4)=56 (7)/(8)

x=(455)/(8)-(17)/(4)

x=(455-34)/(8)

x=(421)/(8)

x=52(5)/(8)

Hence, the height of brad at this year =
52(5)/(8) inches
