There are multiple different ways to solve the question because we don't know what is between 7 and 4.

7 + 4x - 9 = -6
Subtract 7 on both sides.
4x - 9 = -13
Add 9 on both sides.
4x = -4
Divide by 4 on both sides.
x = -1

or

7 - 4x - 9 = -6
Add 9 on both sides.
7 - 4x = 3
Add 4x on both sides.
7 = 4x +3
Subtract 3 on both sides.
4 = 4x
Divide by 4 on both sides.
x = 4

Depending on what your question is, those are the answers.

Depending on your question...

7(4x) - 9 = -6
28x -9 = -6
28x = 3
x = 3/28

OR

7 + 4x - 9 = -6
4x - 2 = -6
4x = -4
x = -1

Hope that helps :)
