The price of a box of cereal was $2.00 at the beginning of a year. At the end of the year, he price of a box of the same type of cereal was $3.00. What was the percent increase in the price of the box of cereal?

you want to find the percent change, so what you do is subtract the curretn price to the original price so , 3-2= which equals 1. once you get 1, you divide it by the original number to get the fraction representing the percent. so 1/2. when you divide 1 by 2 you get .5, to change it to a percent you move the decimal 2 times to the right or multiply by 100. so .5 turns to 50 and you add the percent sign, 50%.
