The American colonists were upset that the British were taxing them especially after the Tea Act of May 10, 1773 which put a tax on tea. As a result they got upset and on December 16, 1773 colonists threw 342 chests of tea overboard. The protest was called the Boston Tea Party.

The Boston Tea Party occurred on December 16, 1773. The colonists were upset over the Tea Act of May 10, 1773 so they decided to destroy a whole shipment of tea from the East India Company by going on board the ship under the cover of night and throwing all the tea into the ocean.

Because of the Boston Tea Party, British Parliament pass the Coercive "Intolerable" acts. Due to the Boston Tea Party, more people started protesting and this finally lead to the American Revolution.

Hope that helps :)
